Manual and semi-automatic describe how an operable wall is used, but semi-automatic does not automatically mean the panels move by themselves. The exact assisted function must be verified.
Operators move and position panels according to the system sequence. The arrangement can be straightforward where trained staff and suitable panel handling are available.
Manual operable walls are moved by hand in a defined sequence: release, travel, park, re-close and re-seal. They require no electrical coordination, keep complexity low and suit standard panel sizes with moderate daily use.
A verified function may assist part of the closing, sealing or control sequence while panel movement remains manual. Confirm the actual mechanism before specification.
Semi-automatic systems assist specific actions in the sequence for large panels, frequent use or smoother operation. They add electrical supply, control interfaces, training and maintenance coordination, all defined in the verified EBUNGE specification.
| Manual | Semi-Automatic | |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Hand-operated in the planned sequence | Core movement manual; specific actions may be assisted |
| Sealing | Manual sealing where configured | Assisted sealing of selected panels where configured |
| Power & control | None required | Project-specific power and control coordination |
| Complexity | Lowest complexity | Higher review and coordination effort |
| Typical fit | Standard panels, moderate use | Large or high-use panels |
Review users, frequency, controls, services, maintenance, emergency operation and budget with the project team. Do not select by label alone.
Choose manual when panel sizes are standard, use is occasional, and simplicity and low project coordination matter. Consider assisted operation when panels are large, the wall moves several times a day, or users need a smoother sequence and the site can support the services. See Semi-Automatic Glass Operable Wall for the system details.
Can manual systems be upgraded later? Upgrades depend on panel and track construction and are reviewed per project against the verified system range.
Does assisted mean automatic? No. Semi-automatic means a verified part of the sequence is assisted; the system is not described as fully automatic.
